Sarnia Votes:
October 26

I am running for the position of Sarnia City Councillor.
My platform can be summed up as follows:

“A candid, future‑focused plan for growth, modern infrastructure, expanded housing, new investment, and coordinated action on homelessness — leaving behind the tired practice of draining reserves and the illusion of zero debt, a plan  grounded not only in what we need, but in what it takes to achieve it.”

Campaign Signs

I am working to get more of my lawn signs distributed throughout the city. Like most things, there was an initial rush, but I still have some signs left.

If you’d like to support my platform, please get in touch through my website (chrisoramforcouncil.ca) or by email at coram@sympatico.ca. I’m particularly hoping to connect with more residents in the south end who can help by putting up a sign.

Your support means a great deal, and I’m committed to doing the work required to move Sarnia forward if elected.

Platform:

  • Rebuild capital reserves rather than using them to offset taxes

  • Examine what other municipalities are doing to encourage growth - (Grants, Strategic Borrowing, Smarter Financial Planning, Innovative thinking for the Future)

  • Improve infrastructure maintenance, reliability, and expansion to support existing industry, and encourage new investment

  • Enhance Sarnia's efforts to attract new business/industry

  • Community consultation to reduce controversy

  • Apply clear forward-looking approaches to issues like the unhoused, supportive housing and all the involved social issues that require cooperation between all levels of government to address;

  • Investigate the best strategy for enacting new zoning by-laws to address homeless shelters and supportive housing

  • Ensure issues such as open drug use and the loitering and littering that go along with it are addressed by the police service;

  • Use measured austerity to stabilize long-term finances (No more "Zero Debt" illusion)

  • Protect frontline services while maintaining sustainable budgets

  • Advocate for downtown revitalization, and other such commercial areas in the city

  • Encourage affordable new housing

The list is long, but:

The difficulty of a goal should never diminish the ambition to achieve it.
